Regent Lighting Solutions was approached by Paul of Paul Munnik Architect (Pty) Ltd to light the façade of this building.
The idea was to create straw like fittings on the façade that creates attention, adds value and has architectural merit by making the location unique and safer, showing the building off in the right light and creating a positive corporate image.
The Straws are mounted at various angles and are fixed at random onto the façade of the buildings, some of them overlap and others stand alone.
The straws were designed based on the Regent Exponential project but with a wider facia at 240mm. The light effect is achieved by a 5W per meter LED strip and 15 lux per metre with remote controllers housed in an IP rated box that mounts to the exterior of the building.
The rear of the Straws also had to look resolved as they can be seen when looking out of the office windows. All the straws are fixed to the building with brackets at the top, at the bottom, and onto two floors' ledges on the underside. The initial concern was that the light output would be too high for the roadside and so the light output was reduced to satisfactory levels and in turn will extend it’s lifespan.
Linear surface mounted 24W p/m fittings were used to light the corridors and entrance to the building.
Piazza pole lights and slivers both in LED were used in parking areas and along the road surrounding the building with up to 10kA surge protection.
